Disadvantages of Craft Assembly Jobs:

Also read : Advantages and Benefits Of Work At Home Product Assembly Jobs

Too Many Assembly Scams
There are many crafting companies that claim to hire home assemblers for making their crafts. It is hard to locate the real offers from the scams. This is the first drawback that you will come face to face with. Like any other work at home opportunity, craft assembly at home is also riddled with false and fraudulent offers. Craft assembly jobs are widely advertised not just on the internet but sometimes also through the classified ads in newspapers printed nationally. It can be safely said that a majority of these offers are not real work at home jobs. So the first struggle that you will have to go through is sift through the myriads of craft assembly offers in order to find the genuine one.

No Fixed Income
There is no fixed income. It varies with work and is greatly dependent upon the working of the company. Craft assembly work from home is not a very organized way of earning an income. There are two major reasons why your income may vary every month. Number one, there can be delays on the behalf of the craft company that you are working for. There may be various causes for this such as fluctuations in demand for the craft, shortage of materials or your product not meeting the inspection process. There are unforeseen delays in between the time that you finish and ship your work till the time that you get paid and receive the next project.
The second reason for the inconsistency in income is you yourself. Many of the craft companies do not put a deadline for completion of the work. Many crafters find if difficult to get organized in a manner so as to assemble a consistent number of crafts every week. If your work output fluctuates, so will your income.
Both these things throw off the projected income off track.

No Special Benefits
There are no benefits. Since you work as an independent contractor, there are no benefits offered of any kind. This is not so common place as whenever you work for yourself, you will be missing out on extra monetary benefits that are normally offered to workers in a regular job. This disadvantage is however mostly offset by all the advantages of working for yourself and working from home.

No Accountability
The company has no accountability. They can stop giving you work anytime. There is no fixed contract of kind with the craft company that you work for. There are no guarantees that you will continue to receive regular work and payment from them. They can terminate the work relationship anytime they choose. So there is no job security as such. Which is why it is recommended to have more than one craft company short listed that you can work with.

Difficult Time Consuming Work Can Limit Your Income
Work can be difficult and time consuming. Income is limited to the amount of work you can accomplish every month. It is wrong to presume that the work is going to be easy while going in for any craft assembly job. It may seem like that in the description and profile of the craft but is seldom the case. A classic example is that of the “BookMark” craft. A lot of people get very keen on making this craft. They presume how hard is it can be to make a bookmark, right? But if you go in to the craft details and read what people have to say about making the “BookMark’ craft, you will realize that it is not just a normay bookmark. It is a crafty bookmark that is made in special way using an intricate knotting technique. Many people find it difficult just to get this knotting technique right. You will probably need a lot of practice initially to get comfortable in assembling the craft. The work output is slow in the beginning and therefore the earnings are slow as well. It may take you the first couple of batches to become sufficiently proficient in making a substantial quantity and hence a substantial income every month.

Starting May Be Slow
It takes time to get started. Finding the right company and getting started may be time consuming. The initial going can be really slow. Especially for the inexperienced crafter. Many companies require you to go through an inspection process before they approve you to work for them full time. Many people, in fact most of them, take several tries before they qualify to work full time. So when joining up you should be ready to give in a few weeks and even maybe a couple of months before you can settle down to making an income every month.

No Professional Association Or Affiliation
You are not associated with any company. You are required to establish your own setup. It does not count as professional experience. If you are a crafter by profession, working for a craft assembly job will not count as a professional experience. There are also certain expenses that you will need to make on your own in order to set yourself up in the business of craft assembly. This depends of the craft of your choosing and could range from buying a cutting knife and a hot glue gun to purchasing a sewing machine. The advice is to start with something simple that can make without spending any extra money. Only after a few months of having consistently worked with a craft assembly job, should you contemplate investing in infrastructure growth.

Small Outfits – Small Volume Of Work
Most of the craft assembly offers come from small craft business that cannot sustain a lot of people working for them. There may be lay offs. There may be fluctuations in the sales which will determine the amount of work they accept from their crafters. Recently there have been a few cases of craft assembly companies informing their crafters that they will no longer be able to provide work to them.

Repetitive Work
The work can get highly repetitive. Although you may try making different crafts for different companies, you will still need to make each item in bulk quantity. The work may begin to feel stale to the crafter that desires more challenging and variety of craft work.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you happened to come across a favorable review of some assembly job offer. The person seems to be fairly satisfied as far as he is on our experience with working from home by making crafts is concerned. And these two are mostly by the people who have done product assembly in the past but not doing it any more. But you will not find many of these on the Internet. Mostly you will find only the favorable reviews. You will mostly get to read about how they were scams out a them money and never got paid for their work. I believe that there is a reason why many people who even after having had a favorable experience working from home by assembling products do not openly speak about it. Anybody working from home by making craft items for the product assembly business realizes that the number of openings are a few. They also realize that the amount of work they receive from the company depends on the size of the business itself. Most of the craft businesses are small-time businesses. People who do manage to find successful employment with a craft assembly job do not like to publicize it for the fear of jeopardizing their own position. As more and more people start applying for a particular assembly job the more tentative the position of the current home assemblers becomes. If there are too many people applying them sooner or later the company starts rejecting applications. Or worse they start rejecting the craft units shipped by the home assemblers. This is really not a good policy on the part of the company but we feel that this happens all the time. Ideally what a craft business should be to when they cannot hire any more home assemblers is that they should close down the application for further job openings. But what happens instead is that new home based assemblers get in their work rejected repeatedly just because the company does not have a high in demand for the product in order to sell this extra input of products.

There are certain product assembly company is that have informed their home assemblers in the recent past that they are unable to balance the demand and supply for the craft and hence in order to get rid of the surplus production, will not be able to provide work to home based assemblers any more.

Every home based assemblers knows that he or she is working as an independent contractor. The company has no obligation to continue the work agreement with them and can terminate the same at any point of time. As every home assembler is aware of the instability of the assembly job and income they are not keen on sharing with other people interested in the same job. It is the simple case of self preservation in the field of work where it is tough to find a real home based job.

The popular product assembling companies are measured not by their own success but by the amount of success that people have had assembling crafts for them from home.

There are a hand full of product assembly companies that have a lot of satisfied home assemblers working from them. Some of these people have been employment with these companies for years. The popular product assembly companies have been regular with their payments and have a good working business policy in place.

Most of the legitimate and popular product assembly companies are also craft businesses in their own right. They are into either retail or wholesale selling off craft items. In order to support the production of their craft line they hire assemblers to make their crafts from home.

A few examples of the popular product assembly companies that are in good standing with the people working for them are Cottage Industries, Valerie Hattery and The Magical Gift Company also known as New England Crafters.

Important Note: Cottage Industries is not believed to be out of business since there website is non-functional and their phone numbers do not seem to be working.

All these three names have certain features in common which makes them a cut above the rest. First and foremost both Cottage Industries and The Magical Gift Company have their own craft retail store. When you visit their website the first thing that you will spot is the photograph of their store in one of the prominent districts with the address and listed phone number. You are welcome to give them a call or pay them a visit if you happen to be in the neighbourhood. Both these companies allow you speak about the home based assembly job opportunity face-to-face with the people in charge. Cottage industries even goes as far as to let you pick up your starter kit and drop of your finished craft units at their office. This kind of an arrangement works very well for the people staying in the nearby areas.

Valerie Hattery is an assembly company that is in relatively good standing with The Better Business Bureau. A good rating with the Better Business Bureau is something that a majority of the product assembly companies do not enjoy. All of these three companies ask the home assemblers to send one sample of the craft to them for approval before they are allowed to work full-time. Instead of having to make the complete batch and send it to the company for the inspection process you are just required to make the one. Only after your Sample has been approved can you go ahead and finished the rest of the batch will stop this way you save a lot of time and effort in case you are not doing it right in the first place. Till the time that you can get the Sample craft correct it is sent back to you with instructions and report about what you are doing wrong and how to fix it.

The Magical Gift Company has a list of all the people working for it present on its website. The day that you did approved to work for the magical gift company your name will also appear alongside the rest of the people successfully assembling crafts for the company. The magical gift company also maintains its own blog where the people working can freely exchanged ideas tips and thoughts about the various jobs that they are doing. This provides a good platform for any beginner. You are in a position to gain some helpful insights into how to conduct your assembly job at home in the best manner. You can not only share your experience but learn some important tips that may help you get the job done better and faster will stop

Valerie Hattery is the company that tells its potential home assemblers that the work of product assembly that it provides is mainly for the creation of purpose. It is work that the person is supposed to do as a hobby and enjoyment rather than for a full-time income. While there is money to be made it is only part time. Clarity in the policy of this company makes it an attractive choice for many people.
There are other companies that are also popular with people interested in doing assembly at home. But almost all of them have a few certain points in common. They have a valid craft business which is either a retail or a wholesale enterprise. They have a good approval process. They list out their physical address and phone number and are ready to render friendly assistance over the phone. All you queries are answered and you are given clear and precise information about your job.

You may have come across several negative reviews by people for product assembly jobs. These are mostly by people that have tried home assembly jobs but have been unable to make any money from them. There are several reasons for people failing at assembly jobs and not all of them can be attributed to the presence of scams, although you should know right now that there are more scams than genuine jobs when it come to product assembly jobs at home. Although a lot of people will claim that they were unable to make money because the work offer was as scam, this is not necessarily true.

The very first step that determines your success or failure with product assembly is the ability to find the right job. There are several offers for assembling products at home and making an income, not only on the Internet but also on other public mediums as well such as newspaper classified ads. They are not all genuine. Do not trust any assembly job offer till you can verify the credentials of the company as well as the owner. Most of the people neglect to do this crucial screening process. How is it that you can spot a genuine product assembly job offer from a scam, we will discuss in our other writing here.

The second step that determines your success is patience. You need to be patient in searching for the right assembly company and assembly job. After you have found the offer that is right for you, you need to show patience and perseverance in working for it. The initial approval process can take up to several weeks till you can finally start working as a home assembler.

Do not presume that the assembly work is simple and that you be able to do it without a glitch. Although the work may sound simple, making craft items with the highest level of perfection and craftsmanship may not be possible for everyone. Even children do craftwork, but while doing it professionally for a craft business, you need your items to be perfect and sellable in the craft market. If you doubt your craftsmanship then you should either practice beforehand or consider doing sorting else.
Remember that crafts that sound simple and easy in description such as bookmarks, greeting cards etc are not so in reality.

People also believe that they are going to be making several thousand dollars doing assembly work at home every month. This is not true. An income of a few hundred dollars is a more realistic aim. If you want to make a more substantial income and for a sustained period of time, you should consider something else.

People also presume that no experience is necessary. While no formal experience or qualification is called for, it is equally true that only the skilled crafter can be successful at product assembly jobs. There are two reasons for this. One, the crafter will be able to make more crafts that meet the quality standards of the craft business. Second, the skilled crafter will be able to finish more work every week and make more money. For a non experienced crafter, the going can be slow and tough. Not being able to finish a substantial amount of work every week will mean a low income every month which in turn can be frustrating for the person.

These are some of the reasons that people end up being dis-satisfied with a product assembly job. They often end up asking for a refund for their money. They end up complaining about the legitimacy of the job because they went in with either wrong expectations or a wrong skill set. Asking for a refund also proves to a problem in some cases as you might not have read the fine print. Most of the assembly companies offer a refund only in the case of the starter kit being returned to them in a completely unused state. And then too shipping charges and restocking fee is deducted from the refund amount.

There are a few thing you need to do in order to succeed with product assembly. These are some helpful tips that will make the job easier for you.

1. choose an assembly job offer from a company that has valid address details. Contact as many companies as possible. This may take time but is essential to weed out the bad assembly job offers from the genuine ones.

2. if you are unsure of your crafting ability, it is better to try your hand at making crafts before you sign up to work for a company. You can pick up a craft book from your closest book store of choose from the thousands of free craft projects available on the internet. Choose a craft that is closest to the product that you want to assemble. Start with something simple and then move on to something more advanced. When you are sure that you can make crafts with a high degree of accuracy and great craftsmanship then you can attempt to sign up with an assembly company.

3. accept an offer to assemble products for a craft business only after you have managed to speak with some one over a customer care helpline. All your doubts should be cleared.

4. choose a product that is the closest to your crafting skill. Do not bite off more than you can chew. Often a crafting business has a choice of crafts that it offers for home assembly. These products are also varying in difficulty level. It may be tempting to pick up some of the more advanced products since they usually pay more. This would be a mistake. You should only pick up a craft to assemble that you are sure you will be able to make. In fact it is advisable to start with the simplest of craft to begin with. Whoever you speak with on the customer care helpline should be able to provide you with ample information regarding the complexity of different crafts available for assembly with them.

5. choose a product that you feel you can enjoy making. The process of craft assembly is a repetitive job. You will have to make several similar items to finish a batch of the product. One finished batch can comprise of a 6-100 items. The more difficult the craft to assemble, the lesser is the quantity. But it is should be obvious that if you love what you make then the work will be more enjoyable. Therefore, you should choose a craft that takes you feel you can enjoy making or always have. Other wise you may feel the work soon getting monotonous.

6. do not count on just one company. Contact as many assembly companies as you can. Even if you are working for one keep contacting other companies at the same time. It is always prudent not to keep all your eggs in one basket. Not only will this enable you to increase the volume of your work but also provide for variety.

7. involve your family. If there are other members of your family who can give you a hand in their spare time, involve them in your work as well. Assembling a craft works much better if the labor is segregated. For example, one person can do all the cutting while the other can do the gluing. This also serves to speed up the process a great deal.

8. buy additional tools from your closest craft store. You are often supplies with basic tools with your starter kit. But sometimes they are not sufficient or good enough. For example, you may be given a given a bottle of glue in your starter kit but you are better off buying a glue gun from your Walmart store. It provides for a higher degree of difficulty. For all cutting purpose, including the woodworking items, the knife provided in the starter kit is often of a poor quality. You are well advised to buy a good Crafto Knife from a craft store. Having better tools shaves off a lot of time in finishing your items. You will also be able to achieve a higher level of accuracy that may otherwise not be possible with regular tools.

9. become part of the crafting and product assembly forums. You will get to be a part of some important discussions regarding the various aspects of product assembly. You will also get to learn and exchange important tips on how to work better with product assembling jobs. Some of the product assembly companies have started their own forums where people working for them can exchange ideas.

Hopefully these tips will make the work of assembling products at home somewhat easier for you and help you generate extra income for yourself.

It is important to be patient when working from home with a product assembly job. You will need patience on two counts. At the very outset, when you are looking for a genuine company for which you can assemble products at home, you will need to sift through a multitude of company listings. There are many offers that are published either through the internet or the classified ads in the newspapers all over the country. You may even receive flyers in your post. Not all of them are real offers. In fact most of them are frauds. There is a large list of assembly companies available on this website. There are more than 200 major product assembly companies listed. You will need patience to go through all of them and contact as many as you can. One of the important ways to determine the legitimacy of an product assembly offer is to contact the company for all the details and then trying to verify those details with consumer agencies. You can also try to locate other people who are working for the company. Based on the response that you receive from the company and what your research about a company tells you , you will short list the top favorites. You also decide the company you want to work for based on the craft that you would like to make as they all offer different ones.

Once you have narrowed the choices down to the one name that you want to start you assembly work with, you need to start the approval process. This is usually where you send in for the starter kit and then make one sample product for them. Only after does your sample meet with the quality check of the assembly business do you get approved to make further crafts for them. This process can sometimes take several weeks. It is important not to give up during this time. There is also the off chance that the particular product that you want to assemble might not be available with the craft company at that time. You might be asked to wait for some time before it becomes available again. Use the time when you are waiting to hear from one company to contact other product assembly firms. It is best to not to count on one assembly company till the time that you have worked for them for a couple of months. Till then try to get information about as many assembly companies as possible.

Now comes the part were you have started working with some product. Some more patience here. The going can be slow at the beginning. You will need to practice and get better and faster in making your craft. But it is most important at all times to stay focused and not allow carelessness to creep in your work. Even if the work is slow in the beginning you have to make sure that the products you assemble match up to the quality standards of the company you are working for. You may feel the impatient need to finish making the entire batch, ship it to the company for approval and receive your first paycheck. But there is no point in getting sloppy in order to finish faster. If you slip in the area of your workmanship, your products will get rejected during the inspection process and that will be an entire waste of your time and effort.

There is another aspect of product assembly that you need to exercise caution with. When you receive your first paycheck from an assembly company, do not be hasty and order in lots of raw materials from the company in order to assemble several batches of products for them in one go and make more money. Wait for a couple of months till you have been paid 3 to 5 times before considering increasing the volume of work for the company.
